4. Unusual Lethargy or Weakness
Cats sleep a lot — up to 16 hours a day. But there’s a difference between normal napping and the heavy, sluggish lethargy caused by illness.
Watch for a cat who is harder to wake up, doesn’t respond to favorite toys, or seems unsteady on their feet. The FDA specifically mentions lethargy as a common symptom of Salmonella and Listeria infection.
