2. Diarrhea or Bloody Stool
Diarrhea within 24 to 72 hours of eating contaminated food is another major warning sign. Look for stool that is unusually watery, loose, or contains blood or mucus.
The FDA specifically lists bloody diarrhea as a symptom of Salmonella infection in pets. If you see blood — even small traces — contact your veterinarian the same day.
