1. Sudden Vomiting
Vomiting within 2 to 48 hours after eating is one of the earliest signs of food contamination. Bacterial contaminants like Salmonella and Listeria trigger the stomach to empty itself as a defense mechanism.
Occasional hairball vomiting is normal. But repeated vomiting — especially after eating a new bag or can — is a red flag. Stop feeding immediately and save a sample of the food for your vet.
