7. What You Should Do Right Now
Most cat owners now ask 2 questions:
How do I know if my cat was already affected? The 10 warning signs veterinarians say never to ignore
What should I feed my cat instead? The 5 cat food brands vets actually feed their own cats
If you recognize any of these brands, check the lot numbers on your packaging immediately. Here is what the FDA recommends:
• Do NOT feed any recalled product to your pets.
• Dispose of the food in a sealed bag so other animals cannot access it.
• Wash and sanitize all bowls, scoops, and surfaces that touched the product.
• Wash your hands thoroughly after handling any recalled food.
• Contact your veterinarian if your cat shows signs of lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite.
You can check for the latest pet food recalls at FDA.gov/animal-veterinary and report any pet food complaints through the FDA’s Safety Reporting Portal.
