3. Imported Cookware — Lead Leaching
In August 2025, the FDA issued a warning about certain imported cookware that may leach lead into food during cooking. The risk is highest with brightly colored ceramic cookware and plates from unverified manufacturers.
Lead can leach into acidic foods (tomato sauce, citrus) at especially high rates. If your cookware is chipped, cracked, or from an unknown origin, the FDA recommends replacing it.
